Thrifting your personal style while helping the planet

Shopping second hand is a great choice for the planet and can be lots of fun. Firstly, you can find all sorts of styles from vintage to modern at lower prices. Moreover, by buying pre-loved items, you reduce waste and help support a more ethical fashion industry. If you like hunting for unique pieces and want to help the environment, try thrift shopping.

ThredUp is my top choice for second-hand shopping. Additionally, it has many options, different prices, and you can easily search by brand and style. Furthermore, you can also shop by the condition of the items, and designer pieces are verified. Besides that, ThredUp offers recycling services too. You can request a clean-out bag from their website to send in your items and earn credit for future purchases. Finally, they also donate unsold items, making it simple and rewarding to clear out your closet.

Find me on YouTube at this link for fashion videos showcasing items from ThredUp.

I hope to inspire you to creatively play dress up and provide you with tips and tricks on easily refreshing a wardrobe that reflects your evolving style & personality on your fashion journey.

Fashion and Comfort: Exploring Prosthetics and Mastectomy Bras Options

Today I am excited to share with you my favorite prosthetics and mastectomy bras.

Prosthetics serve as a valuable option for individual dressing a post-mastectomy body who may want the curves of a breast everyday or only sometimes. There are many types of prosthetics available. From lightweight silicone prosthetics, custom designed forms, a variety of foam inserts, knitted knockers, even shower loofahs are used. For these reasons, the versatility, options, pros and cons of each I will be highlighting my favorite prosthetics the Athleta Empower Pads athleta.gap.com in this post and similarly my favorite mastectomy bras where I find many styles I love at, www.amoena.com. There are many other creative ideas I have run across as well the last five years since going flat and I will share those with you in a future post.

Prosthetics also can help those struggling with body image either from concavities, lumps, bumps, and of course many other reasons as well.

I know personally I really enjoy having the option of “removable breasts!” I love options and consider them an accessory in my wardrobe. And I believe there are prosthetics to fit everyone’s budget and fashion needs.

Finding Community Resources

In many cities get a free pair of prosthetics at your local breast cancer centers once a year as a breast cancer survivor where they may likely have a volunteer(s) that will help fit you and send you home with a pair to implement into your wardrobe and will often include a couple of mastectomy bras as well. They are usually just your basic nude and black colors of bras but, it is a good starting point to explore mastectomy bras, fit and prosthetic weight and sizes as well. I recommend calling your local breast cancer or Oncologist to see if you have such a place in your local area.

Prosthetics can be very costly when not covered with insurance. So exploring options in your local area is a good place to start along with the Athleta Empower pads that are quite affordable online. That way you will have a light weight style prosthetic to swim, and use for everyday use along with a custom style/traditional style prosthetic that will be heavier and you can decide what works best for you. I like both at different times depending on what I am wearing and also consider the time of year as the traditional prosthetics are latex/plastics and they can be much warmer if sweating is something you are concerned about.

Fashion & styling

Here is a great video I did with a lace top that I styled with and without my Athleta Empower Pad prosthetics,,(Mastectomy bra inserts) which you can find here; https://athleta.gap.com https://youtu.be/6YoFtO04Lb4?si=horuNdv0oSRTDhYg

In this video, https://youtu.be/0LzIn98HM2M?si=j8HYl42S53S-UHb8 I highlight the Athleta Empower pads again inside of an Amonea mastectomy bra. Amonea has a wide selection of mastectomy bras to fit any style you might be looking for from basic to pretty and sexy. athleta.gap.com & https://www.amoena.com/us-en/ I love to take advantage of their sales when they have them to get some new bras as I like a wide selection to have numerous colors and styles to choose from so that when I am dressing and choosing to wear prosthetics I have something that will work in any circumstance.
